Netflix Offers First Look at ‘The Sandman’

As Netflix’s upcoming comic book series, The Sandman, wraps production on season 1, the streamer revealed a first look at the comic book adaptation, via Deadline. The teaser was released on Saturday during Netflix’s Tudum fan event.

Based on the comic books by Neil Gaiman (American Gods), the ten-episode series is described as a “rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama, and legend are seamlessly interwoven,” via DeadlineThe Sandman will follow the people and places affected by Morpheus, a.k.a The Dream King (played by Tom Sturridge), as he tries to repent for all the mistakes he made in his existence.

The teaser features an occult ritual summoning Dream where his family, Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), Desire (Mason Alexander Park), and Despair (Donna Preston), are name-dropped — all of whom will be appearing in the series. Dream will be captured by the occult and will be held for 105 years before breaking free to restore his kingdom of the Dreaming.

Also starring in the series will be Gwendolyn Christie (Game of Thrones) as Lucifer, Vivienne Acheampong (The Witches) as Lucienne, Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl) as the Corinthian, Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as Roderick Burgess, Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as Johanna Constantine, and Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing) as Abel, among others in the ensemble cast.

Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman) will serve as executive producer and showrunner. David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) will also serve as an executive producer, and Goyer and Heinberg are co-writers on the series.
