NBC’s ‘St. Denis Medical’ Gets Five Additional Episodes

According to Deadline, the upcoming mockumentary sitcom series has been picked up for 5 additional episodes by NBC. This brings the total episode count of St. Denis Medical‘s first season to eighteen episodes.

NBC commissioned the pilot of the single-camera comedy series in 2022, however, as Deadline notes, the production and release of St. Denis Medical was significantly delayed by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023, causing the series to miss its projective release in the 2023-24 season. This announcement comes as the original run of thirteen episodes wraps production. Deadline reports that five more scripts had previously been picked up and are now entering production.

Justin Spitzer (The Office, Superstore) and Eric Ledgin (American Auto, Superstore), a duo best known for their roles as creators and co-executive producers of the hit sitcom series Superstore, continue their career together, serving as c0-creators of the new mockumentary series. Aiming for a similar tone and style as their previous work together, Deadline reports that St. Denis Medical follows a group of steadfast doctors and nurses in an underfunded and understaffed Oregon hospital attempting to maintain the best care possible for their diverse array of patients, and simultaneously, their sanity.

Helming in leading roles, the series stars Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs, Bridesmaids) as the hospital’s executive director, Allison Tolman (Emergence, Gaslit) as the supervising nurse and David Alan Grier (Joe Pickett, Snap Decision) as an Emergency Department doctor. Josh Lawson (Superstore, House of Lies), Mekki Leeper (The Sex Lives of College Girls, Jury Duty), Stephen Schneider (The Righteous Gemstones, Imaginary Mary) and Kaliko Kauahi (Superstore, Raven’s Home) are also featured in supporting roles.

As Deadline notes, St. Denis Medical is not the only new comedy series coming to NBC’s fall 2024 schedule, as the multi-camera sitcom Happy’s Place starring Reba McIntire is currently in production and set to release later this year. St. Denis Medical is set to air on Tuesdays at 8 pm EST on NBC.
