Tim Daly (Madam Secretary, Wings) and Téa Leoni (The Family Man, Fun with Dick and Jane), real-life husband and wife, will star together in the upcoming NBC sitcom Newlyweds. Deadline reported that NBC dropped first-look photos, giving a glimpse into the romantic series.
Newlyweds follows an unexpected romance between Jeanie (Leoni), a free-spirited woman, and James (Daly), a reserved college professor. The two quickly fall for each other and make the impulsive decision to get married after a brief, yet dynamic courtship. A recent divorcee, James’ first sight of Jeanie at a valet stand instantly pulls him in. He arranges a dinner date, and their relationship kicks off. Captivated by her personality and charm, he joins her for dinner, setting their relationship in motion. However, James soon discovers that married life with Jeanie is far more spontaneous than the quiet routine he is used to. Despite their differences, he realizes he would rather step outside his comfort zone than risk losing her.
Leone and Daly’s co-stars include Jamie Lee Curtis (Freaky Friday, Halloween), who plays James’ ex-wife Claudia, Emma Meisel (Please Don’t Feed the Children, Knight Squad)who plays Jeanie’s child, Poppy, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio (Departing Seniors, Primo) who plays Jeanie’s child, Lolo, Bill O’Neill (Drillbit Taylor, Good Girls Get High) who plays James’ philosophy department assistant at the University of Oslo. Additionally, Al Madrigal (The Way Back, I’m Drying Up Here) will star as Dan, James’ best friend who also got divorced. Dan is behind the coupling of the leads, despite himself having plans to stay single for the rest of his life. However, once James and Jeanie suddenly get married, his plans are disrupted by James’ ex-wife, Claudia.
Gail Lerner (Seraglio, Cheaper by the Dozen) and Curtis co-created and executive produced Newlyweds. Lerner will be showrunner. Pam Fryman (Happy’s Place, Night Court) directed the pilot and executive produced it. The Tannenbaum Company’s (Two and a Half Men, Eternally Yours) Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, and Jason Wang will also serve as executive producers, alongside Scott Schwartz’s (The Toy, A Christmas Story) and Lionsgate Television.
Newlyweds is produced at Universal Television Studio, a division of Universal Studio Group.
