According to Deadline, this Thursday, January 15, a new episode of Law & Order: SVU was scheduled to air across NBC. A decision was made to pull this specific episode on the account that guest star Timothy Busfield (The Indie Escape Network, Marvel Wasteland’s: Old Man Starlord) was charged with two counts of alleged criminal sexual conduct with a minor and alleged child abuse.
Deadline mentioned that this decision came just a few days after a warrant was issued last Friday for the actor-director-producer. These allegations of the warrant were from alleged inappropriate behavior on the set of another TV drama series, Fox’s The Cleaning Lady, which was filming in New Mexico for the Warner Bros.Television studio. Variety noted that the alleged victim was one of twin boys who claimed that Busfield allegedly touched him once when he was seven, and again when he was eight on set. Busfield served as an executive producer and director for the series.
Variety noted that Warner Bros. Television issued a statement regarding the alleged incident:” The health and safety of our cast and crew is always out top priority, especially the safety of minors on out productions. We take all allegations of misconduct very seriously and have systems in place to promptly and thoroughly investigate, and when needed, take appropriate actions. We are aware of the current charges against Mr. Busfield and have been and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement.”
According to Deadline, the heart and soul of the NBC drama are stories about sex crimes. In the episode that was pulled, “Corrosive”, found Busfield playing a judge who has his life threatened as he deals with a case of abuse. This particular episode deals with themes of trauma and recovery as Detective Rollins, played by Kelli Giddish (The Brief Tragedy of Ernest Carter,The Good Wife), must support a victim with a traumatic past.
Deadline reports this week’s episode will be replaced with the January 22 episode. According to Variety, Busfield appeared in the series in 2011 and directed two episodes seven years ago.
