“The Wizard of Oz” is the popular storyline of the year. The movie starring Judy Garland was released over seven decades ago, but now the story is coming back to the spotlight. NBC has joined the party by purchasing a new drama series called Emerald City.
Emerald City is written and executive produced by Matt Arnold. Deadline describes the series as a “dark re-imagining of the classic tale of Oz in the vein of Game Of Thrones, drawing upon stories from [L. Frank] Baum’s original 14 books.”
Not only did Syfy recently announce that a miniseries project titled Warriors Of Oz was in the works, but CBS is also developing medical drama titled Dorothy, which will use characters like the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, the Lion and Dorothy for inspiration.
James Franco starred in Oz: The Great And Powerful earlier this year and rumors are circulating on the development of a Wicked movie (based on the book and popular Broadway musical).
