After season two ended almost a year ago on a massive cliffhanger, NBC’s medical drama The Night Shift finally has a premiere date for its third season. According to TVLine, the show will premiere on Wednesday June 1 at 10 p.m.
When the show first premiered in the summer of 2014, it was the number one summer show on NBC and ended up getting the show a midseason premiere for its second season in February of 2015.
The show follows the night shift staff at San Antonio Memorial Hospital as they treat patients and try to overcome their difficult pasts, as some of them served in Afghanistan and main character TC Callahan (Eoin Macken) has PTSD.
The second season ended with Drew Alister (Brendan Fehr) and Rick Lincoln (Luke MacFarlane) driving off to get married and Jordan Alexander (Jill Flint) waking up from her coma to realize she’d lost her and TC’s baby – only for him to propose to her before the screen went black.
Season three is set to feature many cast changes as Freddy Rodriquez left the show to star in CBS’ Bull, according to Deadline. There’s also been new characters that have been added to the show. According to SpoilerTV, Tanaya Beatty has joined the cast as Dr. Shannon Rivera, a new doctor that gets recruited to work at the hospital.
According to Deadline, Jennifer Beals has joined the cast in a recurring role as Dr. Syd Jennings, a doctor who works in Afghanistan with Drew.
According to Entertainment Weekly, AnnaLynne McCord has also joined the cast in a recurring role, where she’ll be playing Jessica Sanders, a pharmaceutical representative.
Some of the cast members were present for NBC’s summer panel that took place on April 1 and talked about what the upcoming season holds for the show, which cast member Robert Bailey said is “emotionally heavy” and added he’s glad the show is able to talk about what they talk about.
