A classic Disney villain is coming to ABC’s Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.
Naveen Andrews will be joining the cast as the genie Jafar, the primary antagonist in “Aladdin.” Series co-creator Edward Kitsis describes Wonderland’s interpretation of the character as “very frightening,” and “very, very, very evil.”
The news was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, where fans were given an exclusive sneak peek at the series. A spinoff of the popular Once Upon a Time, Wonderland will tell a story of its own, following Alice’s adventures as she searches for her lost love, a genie named Cyrus. The series will also include well-known characters from the White Rabbit to the Red Queen—and potentially others, Kitsis teased during the panel Q&A.
Andrews is best known for his role as Sayid Jarrah on LOST and his work in the 1996 film “The English Patient”.
