‘Mythic Quest’ to Release Quarantine Special on Apple TV+

On May 22, the Apple TV+ workplace comedy series will release a one-off special that was written and produced from several locations around the world. Rob McElhenney’s sitcom Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet comes back on the platform with an half-an-hour special, Mythic Quest: Quarantine. According to Deadline, the special was entirely edited, written and filmed on Apple iPhones. McElhenney, Charlie Day and Megan Ganz are co-creators and the series is produced by Lionsgate and 3Arts Entertainment and Ubisoft.

The Mythic Quest quarantine special explores the inside of the game industry during lockdown and follows game developers Poppy (Charlotte Nicdao) and Ian (McElhenney) as they struggle with solitude. Meanwhile, Brad (Danny Pudi) and David (David Hornsby) will start a charitable competition. On the other side, writer C.W. Longbottom (F. Murray Abraham) and Jo (Jesse Ennis) try to figure out the mysteries of online communication.

“Lots of workplaces are figuring out this whole working-from-home thing, and the gaming industry is no different. Virtual meetings are a new and special kind of hell, so I think people will relate. Yes we’ve all had low points, but there have also been incredible moments of triumph and we wanted to celebrate that”, said McElhenney in a statement.

According to Variety, the show was renewed for a second season by Apple earlier this year and was inspired by McElhenney’s visit to Ubisoft’s headquarters. Drawing from The Office, the story focuses on the workplace life of the creative team behind an epic fantasy game called Mythic Quest. The latter is composed of creator Ian Grimm, Poppy, the chief engineer, Brad who controls the budget, executive producer David Brittlesbee, C.W Longbottom, the idealist writer and game testers Dana (Imani Hakim) and Rachel (Ashley Burch).
