‘Mr. Robot’ Returning to SXSW 2016 with Cast Panel and F-Society Exhibit

Returning to SXSW in downtown Austin, TX, is the USA network hit series Mr. Robot. Variety reports this year will feature a panel of the actors and creators as well as an exhibit that will allow fans to experience the world they see on the screen.

Mr. Robot is a series about the world of computer hackers. Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) works as a cybersecurity programmer by day, but by night he is a vigilante hacker working for an underground organization intent on taking down corporate America. The leader of the hacker group goes by the title Mr. Robot and recruits Elliot to help undermine companies such as the one he works for. This year Mr. Robot was nominated for and won a Golden Globe for best TV drama.

The SXSW Mr. Robot panel will feature the show’s stars, Rami Malek and Christian Slater,  and creator Sam Esmail. The panel will allow for a Q&A session as well as an opportunity for the stars and creator to discuss how the show realistically portrays the world of modern day tech culture. The panel will take place on Sunday March 13 from 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center. The series’ accuracy will definitely be a hot topic.

And while on the subject of authenticity, SXSW will have an interactive exhibit that allows fans to feel as if they have entered the world of Mr. Robot. From March 11-14 USA Network is sponsoring a 10-story tall Ferris wheel in downtown Austin where fans can get an aerial view of the city. The F-Society, the hacker group from the series, is based on Coney Island, which is the inspiration for the Ferris wheel. SXSW will also feature a hacker lounge based on the F-Society lair that will house retro-video games. There will also be a graffiti art exhibit, a photo booth, and a prize-giveaway.

Also returning to SXSW this year is the Game of Thrones exhibit SXSWesteros.
