Motion Picture Sound Editors Are Waiving Dues Amidst Hollywood Strike

According to Deadline, Motion Picture Sound Editors are waiving the membership payment amidst the current Hollywood strike. They are waiving payments for the current year which was approved unanimously by the board of the organization. This is due to the current ongoing strike by SAG-AFTRA and the WGA. Motion Picture Sound Editors or MPSE is a nonprofit organization that deals with professional sound and music editors from film, television, and even the gaming industry.

In a statement, Motion Picture Sound Editors said,  “As with other below-the-line talent, sound editors have been profoundly impacted by the stoppage of film and television production. The board is making this gesture in support of its members, many of whom are currently out of work, and to help them avoid having to make the difficult choice of maintaining their membership while experiencing economic hardship.”

President of MPSE Mark A. Lanza (Natural Born Killers) also stated, “We want our members to remain actively involved in our organization, and able to attend our educational seminars, Sound Advice webinars, and other events. We want our members to continue to hone their skills so that, once the strikes are settled, they can return to work at the top of their game as premier sound artists. Our mission is to promote our members and the craft of entertainment sound. Waiving dues at this challenging time is fully in keeping with that mission.”

According to Deadline, MPSE members who have yet to pay for this year and the upcoming year for their memberships will have them waived, and members who have already paid will have the payment credited for the following year. MPSE has no position on the strike but stated that ‘’they look forward to a quick and amicable resolution so that all parties can return to the work they love.”
