2023 has had many original streaming TV shows that were binge-watched for days. But the one that reached the top of Nielsen Ratings was Ted Lasso, ComicBook.com reports. The series streaming on Apple TV+ has not been renewed after three seasons but, since then, it’s one of the most trending shows on the streamer. Apple TV+ is one of the least popular platforms right now, with the lowest number of subscribers. A show most streamed from this app seems like some sort of miracle. So, as of today, this seems like the most plausible reason why Apple TV+ is still doubting if they should give the green light on the production of Ted Lasso spinoff, since lots of people have watched the original series, skyrocketing the number of visits on the streamer.
According to ComicBook.com, Netflix was the top ten streamers with the most subscriber count in 2023. Other shows that dominated the ranking, along with Ted Lasso (not part of Netflix), were Disney+’s The Mandalorian and Jack Ryan, streaming on Prime Video. Based on Nielsen Ratings, Ted Lasso was streamed 16.9 billion minutes in 2023.
Other shows that had surprisingly high numbers of minutes viewed include Suits with 57.7 billion minutes and Supernatural ‘s 22.8 billion minutes at the end of the top ten list. In an exclusive Deadline interview with Brian Fuhrer, the Nielsen SVP of Product Strategy, he stated that “originals are sprinters, like Usain Bolt getting that quick run, and the acquired titles are more distance runners,” (via ComicBook.com).
According to Comicbook.com, Fuhrer also stated that this is a classic example of a longtime series that in the end people end up binge-watching till the last season. This event is seen also with longtime sitcoms, like The Big Bang Theory, which has ended up in the top ten most streamed series list as well in the past. Other animated series for kids have ended up in the top ten also, surprisingly, including Cocomelon and Bluey, as Encanto and Moana were the top two most-streamed movies of the year.
All three seasons of the comedy show Ted Lasso are now available to stream on Apple TV+.
