‘Moon Knight’ Trailer Premieres During Monday Night Football

The newest, and what is probably going to be the bloodiest, Marvel Cinematic Universe show, Moon Knight, premiered its first full-length trailer during the NFL’s latest wild card playoff game. Oscar Isaac (X-Men Apocalypse, Star Wars The Force Awakens) plays the main character, Marc Spector, an ex-marine suffering from dissociative identity disorder who becomes the titular vigilante after he is imbued with the powers of an ancient Egyptian god.

Disney Plus has released snippets here and there, teasing the full trailer, with the hero’s full costume and main mystery villain being teased just two days ago on the streaming service’s Twitter. To fan the fire of excitement the service even released the show’s official poster hours before the trailer.

However, today fans have been treated to an ultimate showing of the vastly underrated comic character’s first live-action appearance.

In the trailer, audiences see the true scope of the hero’s mental illness as he struggles with apparent hallucination and the persistent worrying that he can’t tell his waking life apart from his dreams. His condition is so bad that he shackles himself to his bed every night. However, a mysterious phone call from an unknown number leads him to believe that these dreams may be more than just that.

The trailer also shows more of Ethan Hawke’s (Training Day, The Purge) mysterious villain. In the trailer, he dresses in some sort of ceremonial clothing and has a group of followers bow to him as if to suggest he is a type of spiritual leader to them. He also seems to have a connection with Isaac’s character; the trailer does not specify the kind of relation. Still, it appears that Hawke will portray a character Isaac seeks out for answers.

“There’s chaos in you,” Hawke’s character says to Isaac’s. “Embrace the chaos.”

The trailer contains small clips of the Egyptian mythology behind the character, with shots of the great pyramids and Spector seemingly kneeling before an ancient altar within a temple. Even truer to the character’s comic origins is the quick glimpse of the moon god Khonshu.

The show will premiere on Mar. 30 on Disney Plus, and fans who missed the trailer during halftime of the wild card game can watch it here.
