Miranda Cosgrove Give Fans Their First Glimpse Behind-the-Scenes of Paramount+’s ‘iCarly’ Reboot

Paramount+, the recent rebranding of CBS All Access, gave fans tease of anticipated Nickelodeon reboot iCarly with a post of the cast reunited behind-the-scenes on Twitter Thursday. “So wake up the members of my nation,” the Twitter post recalled the lyrics of the show’s original theme song and included photo of Miranda Cosgrove (Despicable Me), Jerry Trainor (Donnie Darko) and Nathan Kress (Into the Storm) together on the show’s set. The selfie was originally posted on Cosgrove’s Instagram on Wednesday, with a simple blue heart emoji as the caption.

Cosgrove starred as the series titular Carly Shay, a teenage internet personality and proto-influencer. The comedy ran on Nickelodeon from 2007 to 2012 and “became a pop-culture staple and regularly broke viewership records among audiences of all ages” (Deadline). The popularity of the show attracted guest stars such as First Lady Michelle Obama, Jack Black (The School of Rock, Kung Fu Panda) and Emma Stone (La La Land, Easy A).

A revival of the series was announced in December, with Jay Kogen (The Simpsons, Frasier) and Ali Schouten (Champions, Merry Happy Whatever) attached as executive producers and co-showrunners. The three stars pictured in Paramount+’s behind-the-scenes sneak peak are the only actors currently attached to the series.

Jenette McCurdy’s (iCarly, Sam & Cat) absence from the line-up is the most notable, as she rounded out the cast as Cosgrove’s aggressive friend Sam and Kress’ eventual love-interest on iCarly. McCurdy even starred in a spin-off of the series, Sam & Cat, which served as a crossover between iCarly and Victorious and featured musician Ariana Grande (Victorious) in the role of Cat. Entertainment Weekly notes that “[McCurdy] has remained in touch with her former costars over the years” recalling that “in 2015, the main cast reunited for Kress’ wedding.”

Entertainment Weekly assures fans disappointed by the absence of McCurdy in this recent behind-the-scenes photo that there’s still hope she will join the reboot. There’s yet to be news as to whether other cast members from the original run of iCarly, such as Noah Munck (The Goldbergs), Mary Scheer (The Penguins of Madagascar), Boogie (Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything) or Reed Alexander (Will & Grace), will be returning for the Paramount+ reboot.

While fans still have plenty they’d like to know about the upcoming iCarly reboot, this sneak peek whet appetites for the time being. Trainor teased “prepare yourselves” in his Instagram post of the photo, which could be a sign of some excitement iCarly fans down-the-line.
