According to Comicbook.com, the acclaimed Dark Horse Comics series Minor Threats is set to leap from the comic pages onto the big screen. On Tuesday, it was announced that Netflix had acquired the rights to adapt the series, promising to stay true to the original material by enlisting the same creative team behind the comic. This exciting news has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, which states that the show will be helmed by the comic’s original writers, Patton Oswalt (The King Of Queens, BoJack Horseman, Ratatouille) and Jordan Blum (Savage, Fish Friend, The Vacation). Both will serve as showrunners, ensuring their unique vision for Minor Threats remains intact in its transition to television.
As mentioned by Comicbook.com, Scott Hepburn (Batman: Detective Comics, Deadpool Comics, Spider-Man/Deadpool Comics), the artist responsible for bringing the vivid world of Minor Threats to life, will also be joining the project as an executive producer. In addition, Dark Horse’s Mike Richardson (Hellboy, The Mask, 47 Ronin) and Keith Goldberg (Mr. Woodcock, Polar, Bang!) are set to produce, bringing their extensive experience in the comic and entertainment industries to the table.
The journey from comic to television has been a topic of discussion since 2022, as revealed in an interview with Oswalt and Blum conducted by Comicbook.com. During the interview, they hinted at the possibility of a TV adaptation but emphasized their commitment to creating an outstanding comic first. “We want people to go, just enjoy the comic first, but there’s talk,” Blum said. He expressed their dedication to making Minor Threats a great comic book series without using it merely as a stepping stone for a television pilot or movie. “We were like, ‘Let’s just make the best possible comic’ and then if people like it and there’s room to do something else with it, great,” Blum added.
Also mentioned by Comicbook.com, fans of the series have even more to look forward to with the upcoming release of the trade paperback for the second volume, Minor Threats: The Fastest Way Down, set to hit shelves in November. This volume continues the gripping saga of Frankie Follis, also known as the costumed criminal Playtime. With Twilight City’s greatest hero, The Insomniac, and its greatest villain, The Stickman, both out of the picture, Frankie has taken control of the super crook underworld, proclaiming herself as the Queenpin of Redport. However, her reign is fraught with challenges. Rival gangs are questioning her authority, her consigliere Scalpel is urging her to legitimize her empire, and the emotional toll of murdering The Insomniac is taking its toll on her. The series promises to explore the complexities and burdens of wearing the supervillain crown, adding depth to Frankie’s character and the narrative.
