Mindy Kaling Options White House Memoir ‘Who Thought This Was A Good Idea?’

Mindy Kaling has come a long way from her first days on The Office. After writing, costarring, and directing in the dry sitcom for almost a decade, Kaling moved on to don even more hats as creator/star/executive producer for her show The Mindy Project. Now Deadline has reported that Kaling is looking to adapt a bestselling memoir by Alyssa Mastromonaco.

Who Thought This Was A Good Idea? And Other Questions You Should Have Answers to When You Work in the White House?, though an incredibly long title, is a popular book based on Mastromonaco’s experience as deputy chief of staff for operations under the Obama administration. The book described the many intense situations Mastromonaco accrued while working, including covering in times of upheaval, meeting important dignitaries, and elections, all while keeping Obama in high regards.

Mastromonaco had a long relationship with the senator-turned-President, working under him for almost ten years in various roles. According to Deadline, it was actually President Obama who introduced Mastromonaco to Mindy Kaling back in 2012. They quickly formed a friendship and Kaling made the decision to option Mastromonaco’s memoir quickly after finishing the book.

3Arts Entertainment will also work along with Kaling as they option Who Thought This Was A Good Idea? into a television series.
