With the return of Charlie Cox (Kin, Treason) as Daredevil, there have been speculations about the return of the other members of The Defenders. Mike Colter (Evil, Carter) who played Luke Cage in The Defenders and his solo show Luke Cage has finally addressed the rumors of his return. According to Comicbook, Colter would be willing to play Luke Cage again if Marvel gave him the opportunity, but he also said that he isn’t sitting around waiting for Marvel to call him.
Colter also told Chris Killian from Comicbook that Luke Cage is in the rearview mirror for him. He talked about how he is busy at the moment but if he got call and had the time and opportunity to return he would. Colter also spoke about the return of the character but without him. He told Comicbook that he would be happy to let someone else take on the mantle and the role. In the end, Colter said that he is happy that he was part of the legacy of Luke Cage and that he hopes the character lives on in one way or another.
The shows that were the result of the collaboration of Marvel and Netflix were received warmly by fans of the superheroes. Shows like Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher received much praise from most fans. Only Iron Fist wasn’t as popular as the other members of The Defenders. The team-up series, The Defenders, didn’t draw as much praise as the individual shows, even with the cliffhanger finale. So, when Disney+ became a possibility, Kevin Feige decided to cancel all the adult-oriented Marvel/Netflix shows.
In a surprise for the fans, Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. It was later announced he would be getting his own series, Daredevil: Born Again which will also star Vincent D’Onofrio (Godfather of Harlem, Ratched) reprising his role as Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin. The new Daredevil show with the same stars as the original gave fans of the other Marvel/Netflix shows hope that Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Punisher might come back to be part of the new Marvel Cinematic Universe that found a home in Disney+.
Luke Cage follows Luke, an ex-con, who after being experimented on while in prison, gets impenetrable skin. He escapes and resumes a normal life in Harlem, New York. With his new powers, Luke will try to make Harlem a better and safer place for all those who live there.
While it hasn’t been confirmed that Mike Colter will ever return as Luke Cage in the new MCU, Luke Cage is available to watch on Disney+. Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and The Defenders are also available to stream on Disney+.
