Michelle Yeoh to Star in ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ Prequel Series at Netflix

Michelle Yeoh (Crazy Rich Asians) has been cast in The Witcher: Blood Origin, the prequel to the mega-successful fantasy series The Witcher at Netflix. Starring opposite the already cast Laurence O’Fuarain, who will play Fjall, Yeoh is set to portray the role of Scian, as reported by Deadline

A limited six-part series, The Witcher: Blood Origin promises to be every bit as epic and bloody as The Witcher, which stars Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) and is currently gearing up for its sophomore season. The prequel will take place in an elven world 1,200 years before the events in The Witcher, telling the story of how the first original prototype Witcher came to be.

According to Deadline, Scian is: “The very last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves. No one can come close to her artistry with the blade, and no one carries as much loss within their heart. When a chance presents itself to retrieve a stolen sacred sword, taken from her fallen tribe by nefarious means, she launches herself into a deadly quest that will change the outcome of the Continent.”

Yeoh is no stranger to the world of intense action movies filled with acrobatic fights, as she starred in the 2000 martial arts Academy-Award winning film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She’s also known for her role in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies. Yeoh is currently starring in the Crazy Rich Asians film trilogy, having played the controlling mother in the first film released in 2018. Next up, Yeoh will star in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Seven Rings. In addition to being a well established film actress, Yeoh can also be seen in the CBS’ Star Trek: Discovery.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is executive produced by Declan de Barra (The Originals) who will also serve as the series showrunner. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (The Umbrella Academy), executive producer and showrunner of The Witcher, joins him as executive producer alongside Jason Brown (The Expanse), Sean Daniel (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), Tomek Baginski (Into the Night) , and Jarek Sawko (Another Day of Life).
