According to CNN, Michelle Pfeiffer (Scarface, Batman Returns, Dangerous Minds) is set to join the Yellowstone franchise, taking on the lead role in the upcoming spinoff series titled The Madison. The Hollywood Reporter states that the series was originally announced under the working title 2024. The series has now been officially confirmed and is described as a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection” centered on a New York City family relocating to the Madison River Valley in central Montana. The show is created by Taylor Sheridan (Wind River, 1923, Hell Or High Water), the mastermind behind the successful Yellowstone universe, and Pfeiffer will also serve as an executive producer.
Also mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter, Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, expressed his excitement about Pfeiffer’s involvement in the project. “Michelle Pfeiffer is a remarkable talent who imbues every role with emotional depth, authenticity, and grace,” McCarthy said in a statement. “She is the perfect anchor to the newest chapter of the Yellowstone universe.”
The Madison adds to the growing Yellowstone franchise, which already includes popular prequels 1883 and 1923. The franchise has become a television phenomenon, with Yellowstone itself ranking as the most-watched drama series on TV, as mentioned by CNN. The series has captivated audiences with its intense storytelling and star-studded cast, which has included Kevin Costner (The Bodyguard, Waterworld, Hidden Figures), Tim McGraw (The Blind Side, The Shack, Tomorrowland), Faith Hill (Dixieland, The Stepford Wives), Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones: The Dial Of Destiny, The Call Of The Wild, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Helen Mirren (Red, The Queen, Women In Gold).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Costner, who starred as John Dutton in Yellowstone, recently announced his departure from the series after much speculation. Costner explained that he would not return for the fifth season’s second half or any future installments. His exit marks a significant change for the show, which will conclude with its highly anticipated final episodes starting on November 10.
In addition to Pfeiffer’s involvement, The Madison boasts an impressive production team, including Taylor Sheridan (Wind River, Mayor Of Kingstown, 1883), David C. Glasser (Agent Cody Banks, Shortcut To Happiness, Nothing But The Truth), John Linson (The Outsider, The Runaways, Great Expectations), Art Linson (What Just Happened, The Wild Life, The Outsider), Ron Burkle (The Giver, 3 Days To Kill, Out Of The Furnace), Bob Yari (Mind Games, Kickin It Old School, Strange Darling), David Hutkin (Finestkind, The Current War, The War With Grandpa) and many more. The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions.
As the Yellowstone universe continues to expand, The Madison is shaping up to be a significant addition to the franchise, offering fans a new story while staying true to the elements that have made the series a cultural phenomenon.
