The Johnsons will cross paths with Michelle Obama in season eight. According to Deadline, the former First Lady will have a guest appearance in the final season of Black-ish.
The multi-time NAACP Image Award winner will be entering its eighth and final season. The series will continue to touch on various issues in the lives of Dre Johnson (played by Anthony Anderson) and the rest of the Johnson family, including the pandemic, voting rights, and racism. Obama is set to appear as herself in the series, but it is unclear how exactly she will fit into the show.
Michelle went to Twitter to share her excitement for her appearance. “I’ve been a long fan of @BlackishABC’s wit and all-around brilliance, and it was such a thrill to join in for an episode,” she wrote.
Black-ish follows the lives of an upper-class African American family in the Los Angeles area. The show sees the family juggle with social and personal issues, narrated by Dre Johnson, the patriarch of the family.
Black-ish first aired in 2014 and ran for seven seasons and 162 episodes. The series has been met with critical acclaim and success. The series has won Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series, and four consecutive NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series. Black-ish has spawned two spin-offs, Grown-ish and Mixed-ish.
The series stars Anthony Anderson (Hustle & Flow), Tracee Ellis Ross (Girlfriends), Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish), Marcus Schribner (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power), Miles Brown (Goldie & Bear), Marsai Martin (Little), Jenifer Lewis (Sister Act), and Laurence Fishburne (School Daze).
Black-ish will air its eighth and final season on ABC. A premiere date has yet to be announced.
