Micheal Che Pulls Biggest April Fools Joke Yet on ‘SNL’ Weekend Update

Yesterday on the most comedic holiday of the year, April Fool’s Day, Saturday Night Live‘s Micheal Che (Detroiters, Top Five, 70th Annual Emmy’s) pulled another infamous stunt on his co-host Colin Jost (Tom & Jerry, Coming 2 America, 70th Annual Emmy’s) during their weekly spoof news report entitled Weekend Update. Che and Jost have a prior rapport on pulling each other’s legs whether it is writing controversial jokes for each other, calling out famous spouses and/or relatives, and generally sabotaging each other just for the fun of it.

The sketch started off just as any other day, introducing themselves and reviewing current event stories typically involving politics, presidents, and scandals. The two hosts took turns stating the events and then reading their scripted jokes/zingers afterwards, although the crowd was particularly unenthusiastic towards Jost’s segments but gave standing ovations for Che’s one-liners. A particular member of the audience outright said “You Stink” after one of Jost’s typical Trump protesting jokes.

After some initial confusion Che revealed, “I told them not to laugh at you for April Fool’s.” Jost’s immediate reaction was disbelief and betrayal stating his early confusion, “Am I not miked?” he laughed. “And then I was like, ‘Oh, I just suck.’”

With both celebrities and the live audience breaking into hysterical laughter at the sabotage, the duo attempted to continue with the regular programming though Jost was still in shock and awe at the severity and uniqueness of the practical joke telling Che, “God, you’re evil”, followed by a magical chuckle from Che as well as the audience

Jost also added, “That’s the meanest thing you’ve ever done to me. I’m covered in sweat.” Once it was Jost’s turn to read his headline, he got his composure again and read his lines, but when he actually received applause for the joke he yelled back at the audience, “Don’t you even dare.” Jost powered through the rest of the sketch like the professional he is while also having a laugh at his own expense.

The April Fool’s Day Skit was soon uploaded to Twitter, the Saturday Night Live video is available below:
