Michael K. Williams Wants a Chalky White ‘Boardwalk Empire’ Spin-off

HBO’s acclaimed drama Boardwalk Empire ended its five-season run four years ago, but fans still remember Michael K. Williams’ Chalky White. The prohibition-set crime drama provided a fascinating look into America’s organized crime scene of the early 20th century, and Williams’ character was a formidable crime boss in Nucky Thompson’s (portrayed excellently by Steve Buscemi) Atlantic City.

Chalky White was one of the few characters to last the course and survive all the way up to the series’ last season. His cool demeanor, slick style, and powerful screen presence made Chalky White a quick fan-favorite.

But fans aren’t the only ones missing Chalky. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Michael K. Williams indicated he was more than welcome to revisiting the iconic character.

“I love this show, man,” Williams said on Boardwalk Empire. Speaking to how he missed the feeling of playing Chalky, the actor said, “Once you put those clothes on, it was a whole ‘nother ball game. The clothes were a character within itself.”

When his interviewer joked that fans want more of Chalky White, Williams agreed. “I’m still waiting for a Chalky White spin-off,” interviewer Lola Ogunnaike said. Williams didn’t need to say a word: he simply grinned and clapped his hands in agreement.

HBO has given one of its most popular series of all time, Game of Thrones, several spin-off series. Though it is not clear yet exactly how many are being produced, the network has now set a precedent for returning to popular shows and exploring their worlds in more depth.

The return of Chalky White to our television screens might be closer than you might think.
