Melissa McCarthy Surprises on ‘SNL’ as Sean Spicer

Along with Kristen Stewart as host and the return of Alec Baldwin (who will also appear as host next week), Melissa McCarthy paid a visit to Saturday Night Live as Trump spokesman Sean Spicer.

McCarthy’s Spicer fielded questions from the White House press corp (Bobby Moynihan, Kristen Stewart, Cecily Strong, Vanessa Bayer, Alex Moffat and Mikey Day). McCarthy gave a blustering performance as Spicer, doing things from twisting the journalists’ words around in expertly sleazy fashion to squirting them with a water gun. The sketch also featured an appearance by Kate McKinnon as Trump’s education secretary pick Betsy DeVos.

SNL had a strong showing with host Kristen Stewart and musical guest Alessia Cara. Stewart kicked the show off by accidentally dropping an F-bomb at the end of her monologue which managed to go by uncensored. Along with McCarthy’s turn as Spicer, the episode saw Alec Baldwin returning once again as Trump. The episode averaged 5.0 Live+same day rating and a 2.5 in 18-49, Deadline reports.

Alec Baldwin is set to host next week’s episode with musical guest Ed Sheeran.
