Melissa McCarthy Confirms She’s Returning to “Gilmore Girls”

After much speculation and lots of back and forth between Melissa McCarthy and Amy Sherman-Palladino about the former returning to Gilmore Girls, TVLine has reported that Melissa McCarthy is returning to Stars Hallow!

McCarthy also shared the news on The Ellen DeGeneres show, which sent the audience into lots of applause.

Soon after TVLine reported the news, BuzzFeed Entertainment sent out a tweet saying that McCarthy will be in the revival.

The drama of McCarthy not being included in the Netflix revival started when a fan tweeted at McCarthy, asking if she would be in the revival. McCarthy responded by saying she hadn’t been invited back.

Sherman-Palladino responded by saying that McCarthy was too busy she didn’t think she’d be able to work on the revival but would gladly write a scene or two in the show for the actress.

More suspicions were raised when McCarthy’s on-screen husband, Jackson Douglas, tweeted that he would be a part of the finale.

Even McCarthy confirmed she wouldn’t be a part of the finale on March 17, but thank goodness she’s changed her mind!

Besides the day that the show’s revival on Netflix was confirmed, April 7 will go down as the most celebrated Gilmore Girls history, as Entertainment Weekly was on set and took pictures of Lorelai and Rory together and a photo of fan favorite couple Luke and Lorelai holding hands, seeming to indicate that fans are (hopefully) going to finally get the happy ending they’ve been waiting for since the seventh season finale.

Since Gilmore Girls ended, McCarthy’s star power has certainly risen, as she currently stars on CBS’ Mike and Molly, which is in its last season. She has also starred in movies like Identity Thief with Jason Bateman, The Heat with Sandra Bullock and her next movie, The Boss, has its world premiere on April 8.

If McCarthy hadn’t returned to the show, she would have been one of the only original cast members to not take part in the revival.

While a release date for Gilmore Girls hasn’t been released yet, the revival is set to air on Netflix later in 2016.
