Page Six reports that Megyn Kelly has been formally freed from her Fox News contract, allowing her to move forward with her new Sunday news-magazine series on NBC, which will debut sometime in June. Kelly’s contract with Fox wasn’t expected to expire until July, but was just finalized a few weeks ago.
Kelly will join NBC Sunday night news anchor Kate Snow to deliver the news, with NBC veterans David Corvo and Elizabeth Cole as executive producers. Corvo previously produced for Dateline. Following NBC News Chairman’s meeting with a Putin spokesman, there is speculation that Russian President Vladimir Putin may be Kelly’s first interview on her show.
The former Kelly File anchor reportedly agreed to an $18 million dollar contract with the Comcast owned TV network, where she will also host a morning weekday show set to air this fall. Though, it’s unclear whether her show has been staffed, or if it will be branded as apart of The TODAY Show.
“TODAY is the No. 1 morning show in viewers 25 to 54, the demographic that brings in the ad revenue, and its competitive advantages have reached five-year highs,” an NBC executive proclaims. The morning program recently launched an ad campaign that boasts its newsworthiness to compete with other high rising morning programs. Meanwhile, Page Six affirms that “Good Morning America tripled its lead over the show last month,” with CBS This Morning catching up to TODAY‘s numbers.
Megyn Kelly left Fox News in January of 2017, stating in one of her final episodes, “I have decided to pursue a new challenge. I’m deeply thankful to Fox News for the wonderful 12 years I have had here.” Months prior to her departure, Kelly released her book Settle For More which disclosed details on her feud with then presidential candidate Donald Trump, and unwanted sexual advances made by former Fox News chairman Roger Ailes.
