Megyn Kelly to Produce Scripted Political Comedy

Megyn Kelly is set to produce a new scripted series which will follow a presidential campaign trail and all the devoted journalists who cover it, Variety reports. Kelly will work with Michael De Luca (Fifty Shades of Grey) on the project.
Go90, Verizon-owned streaming platform has ordered six half-hour episodes of the political comedy which is titled Embeds. The series will follow multiple young reporters who are in way over their heads as they realize they are shaping the future of the country all while experiencing wild adventures in an environment of sex, drugs, and swing states. Real-life politicians will make appearances throughout the series.

Even though the show will take place during a campaign trail, the main focus of the comedy will be on the young people covering the news rather than the politics. The goal is to premiere the first episode by Election Day. Scott Conroy, co-author of the bestselling Sarah biography (Sarah From Alaska), and Peter Hamby (former CNN correspondent), the head of Snapchat’s news efforts, co-created the show and penned the pilot. Todd Walman will serve as showrunner alongside Conroy who will write the other five scripts and executive produce the show.

Conroy and Hamby originally met during the 2008 presidential campaign, where they actively covered Palin. Conroy will be exiting Vice’s upcoming nightly news show for HBO to work on the series. Hamby will continue his position at Snapchat where he is currently the face of the original news show Good Luck America, which has consistently has millions of views per episode.

The duo began talking about the project during the 2008 presidential campaign because they saw the need to explore how some journalists immerse themselves into a campaign-trail. Conroy and Hamby’s reps at CAA assisted with making the connection with De Luca and Kelly. And De Luca already demonstrated a major interest in politics and was even more intrigued after meeting with the co-creators. Kelly is also repped by CAA and was immediately brought into the project largely because of her focus on the current campaign trail.
