According to Comicbook, a new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s canon, Eyes of Wakanda, has expanded both the mythos of Black Panther and an ancient hero known as Iron Fist. All four episodes of this limited series event arrived Friday, delivering Easter eggs and new characters that fill in the gaps of Wakanda’s past and future.
This is a standalone project, outside of the main line cinematic universe, but it does still plant many seeds for future projects that some fans have been predicting, Comicbook adds.
Iron Fist enters the mix in episode three, “Lost and Found,” offering a key addition. When a Wakandan War Dog, named Basha, retrieves a Vibranium artifact to Wakanda to protect it, he encounters that era’s Iron Fist, Jorani. Jorani followed the War Dog home and is ready to cause some problems for the African warrior. This episode is set hundreds of years before the appearances of Colleen Wing, Danny Rand, or Lin Lie, presenting an early glimpse at their predecessors and their powers, as noted by Comicbook. It is even earlier than the 1800s’ Iron Fist, Kwai Jun-Fan, who was introduced in a Westernized episode of the animated series What If…?.
According to Comicbook, the result of this is the realization that the Iron Fist is powerful enough to break Vibranium in the MCU. This places it in distinguished company with the other entities and powers that are also able to crack this rare space metal at the heart of Wakanda, such as Thanos or The Sentry. This leaves us to question Iron Fist’s place in the power hierarchy of the MCU’s most powerful beings, and what iteration will we receive if we have a proper live-action return of the hero/heroine.
As viewers ponder the future of this character, make sure to watch all four episodes of Eyes of Wakanda and Marvel’s Iron Fist series exclusively on Disney+.
