Maya Hawke Speaks About Hopes for Her Character in Season Five of Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’

Created by Matt and Ross Duffer (Wayward Pines, Hidden), the first season of the science fiction series Stranger Things debuted on Netflix in 2016. When season three of the series premiered in 2019, audiences were met with a new character named Robin Buckley, played by Maya Hawke (Do Revenge, Little Women). Hawke’s character quickly became a popular one, leading audiences to wonder what will unfold for Robin in the future.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hawke has some hopes of her own for Robin. Season four of the series included a storyline between Robin and fellow bandmate Vickie, played by Amybeth McNulty (Anne With An E, A Risky Undertaking). Throughout the season, Robin confided in her best friend Steve Harrington, played by Joe Keery (Spree, Free Guy), about her romantic feelings for Vickie.

The season ended with Robin and Vickie making sandwiches together for suffering individuals after an earthquake caused by Vecna, played by Jamie Campbell Bower (Camelot, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones). Although Robin’s feelings seemed to be unrequited at first, this final scene hints at the potential for mutual romantic feelings between the two.

When asked about her opinion regarding this romance subplot, The Hollywood Reporter notes that Hawke stated, “I feel mixed about it.” She continued, “I also love characters where their love life is not the center of their existence.”

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, some of Hawke’s hesitance comes from her love of the friendship between Robin and Steve. She explained, “That friendship with Steve is so special. Friendships have been carrying me through my life, and I think they’re really important, and they deserve their time.”

With the production of Stranger Things still delayed due to the Writers Guild of America strike, it is still unknown to audiences what the Duffer Brothers have in store for Robin and Vickie.

Nonetheless, fans can look forward to eventually seeing how each character’s storyline ends in the series’ fifth and final season.
