According to Deadline, Max has unvieled that there will be three new french shows premiering on the platform. The news came ahead of launch. Vera Peltekian, the commissioning head, said that the reason for this announcement was that “we don’t want to do a French Succession or White Lotus.“
Deadline said that one series that will be airing is titled Black Lies. The show will follow a mother who cons her way into a victim’s association after the Bataclan attacks. The series will co-star Laure Calam (The origin of Evil), Arieh Worthalter (The Goldman Case), Alexis Manenti (Les Misérables) and Annabelle Lengronne (Mother And Son).
Deadline also revealed information about the second series, which is titled Malditos. This one is about the gypsy community in southern France. In particular, it follows two brothers and a mother who have to repress their dark secrets in order to not hinder their legacy.
Finally, Deadline also gave infornation on the third show, which is titled Living With Our Dead. It is based on Delphine Horvielleur’s memoir and goes into the story of a young rabbi who struggles to navigate the pressure of being a rabbi and helping guide people.
Deadline cited a quote from Peltekian where she said, “It’s important to create that special link and make the viewer feel concerned by the story. Many French people are moving, changing their life and maybe direction, and maybe we could [make shows] about that.”
Deadline said that Max plans to launch very soon in France. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and President of Global Streaming, JB Perette, also said that they will be speaking on Series Mania tomorrow, March 21st. This will be two years after HBO Max Europe commissioners were revealed. The streamer is now preparing for launch which will happen in multiple European countries.
