According to Deadline, AMC’s NASCAR drama series starring Dennis Quaid (Far From Heaven, The Day After Tomorrow) has added new member to its cast. Matt Barr (The Layover, Blood &Treasure) has been set as a series regular alongside recurring characters Chase Stokes (Outer Banks, Marked Men) and Michael Rooker (Guardians Of The Galaxy, Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer) in Thunder Road.
Quaid will play Duane Whitlock, an aging but legendary driver who built his career from nothing but moonshine. The younger racers are coming for his legacy, and he refuses to let them overtake him. Barr is set to play Duane’s oldest child, Calvin. Calvin is no longer in the racing world, and it appears to be a sore spot. Now he attempts to keep his bar, Victory Lane Taproom, from going out of business. Although he never lets the downs of entrepreneurship stop him from pursuing his dreams of expansion.
The series was rumored in November and was officially ordered in April. The series will air on AMC and comes from John Fusco (Young Guns, The Highwaymen). Quaid was announced alongside the series. Fusco will executive produce the series. Taylor Elmore (Tulsa King, Justified) will serve as showrunner. Joining Fusco as executive producers are Elmore, Cliff Roberts (The Midnight Sky, Sleeping Dogs) from Syndicate Entertainment, Mark L. Smith (The Midnight Sky, Overlord), Tim Clarke and John Dahl. Both Dahl and Clarke are from Nascar Studios. Gladys Cheng (Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!) will produce. The show is produced in tandem with NASCAR.
Barr’s recent work includes The Pirate King, in which he appeared alongside Rob Riggle (The Hangover, Step Brothers), Billie Lourd (Adulthood, Smurfs), and Jordana Brewster (The Fast And The Furious, Heart Eyes). The Pirate King premiered this year at South By Southwest. In the future, fans will be able to see him opposite Joel Kinnaman in High Value Target. His other notable works include Hatfields & McCoys, Blood & Treasure, and Walker: Independence.
