Marvel’s ‘She-Hulk’ Premiere Packs Hidden Easter Egg With QR Code

Going against the grain, Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premiered day later than previous Marvel series that have bowed on Disney+. However, a shift in schedule didn’t minimize the fun fans had galvanizing over an early easter egg, according to Comicbook.

In the premiere episode, entitled “A Normal Amount of Rage,” fans quickly noticed a benign, everyday medium appearing in this fictional world that actually works in ours. Comicbook reports a QR code appearing six minutes within the episode is fully operational when scanned. If one blinks, you’d miss it at first glance. But taking another peek will reveal the digitized code hiding in plain sight.

Comicbook details the QR code makes its quick cameo on the wall of a tawdry bar bathroom Tatiana Maslany’s (Orphan Black, Perry Mason) Jennifer Walters stumbles into following an epic incident. If fans have their phones on the ready, scanning the code will take them to a free copy of Savage She-Hulk #1, the character’s first Marvel comic appearance.

Debuting in 1980, the comic written by Marvel legend Stan Lee (Spider-Man, Origins of Marvel Comics) and artist Jon Buscema (The Silver Surfer, The Savage Sword of Conan) introduced Walters as a successful lawyer who, after an injury, received a blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner. The transferring of Banner’s gamma-ray-afflicted blood to Jennifer imbued her with similar Hulk powers. In the series adaptation, Walters’ transformation is spurred by her accidentally acquiring Bruce’s blood from a wound after a car accident.

The series, written by Jessica Gao (Rick and Morty, Easter Sunday), gathers inspiration from multiple runs of the heroine’s comics.

“For me, it was John Byrne’s run that A, made me fall in love with the character in the first place,” Gao said according to Comicbook, “but B, I consider that like and most people do, this is nothing new, it’s the iconic She-Hulk run, you know, and he was the one who introduced the fourth wall breaking and kind of the meta nature of this character and how she was self-aware and knew she was in comics. So for me, that’s quintessential Jen. That’s, well, that’s quintessential She-Hulk actually I should say and I think early, there’s been so many iterations of Jen in the comics and she really started out a little bit more timid, a little bit mousier and as she kinda went along more in the Dan Slott and Charles Soule runs, you started to really see this career driven working woman who had a very strong sense of right and wrong and we’ve really brought a lot of those traits into Jen.”

In addition to Maslany and Mark Ruffalo’s (Spotlight, Avengers: Endgame) Banner, the series stars Ginger Gonzaga (Kidding, I’m Dying Up Here) as Walters’s best friend, Nikki Ramos; and, Jameela Jamil (How to Build a Girl, Marry Me) as villain Titania, all appearing in the first episode. Viewers can expect both new and familiar faces for the rest of the nine-episode run with the cast including Josh Segarra (Arrow, AJ and the Queen), Renée Elise Goldsberry (Altered Carbon, Evil), Jon Bass (Sword of Trust, Baywatch), Benedict Wong (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Deadly Class), Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs, The Incredible Hulk), and Charlie Cox (Daredevil, The Theory of Everything).

New episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stream every Thursday exclusively on Disney+.
