Amy Ryan Joins Apple TV+’s ‘Sugar’ Starring Colin Farrell & Kirby Howell-Baptiste

Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan is set to co-star in Apple TV+’s upcoming series, Sugar, alongside Colin Farrell (True Detective) and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Queenpins), per Deadline. Although Apple TV+ has yet to release plot or character information on the series, Deadline reports that the series will be a contemporary detective story based in Los Angeles.

Ryan recently starred as Jan in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, where she primarily performs opposite Steve Martin. The latter earned an Emmy Award nomination for his role in the series. Ryan’s additional credits include Liz Garbus’s Lost Girls, Sara Colangelo’s Worth, Rowan Athale’s Strange But True, HBO’s High Maintenance, Nisha Gantra’s Late Night, and Felix van Groeningen’s Beautiful Boy. Ryan is also set to star opposite Parker Posey (Search Party) and Academy Award winner Joaquin Phoenix (C’mon C’mon) in the upcoming film Disappointment Blvd. from director Ari Aster (Midsommar).

Farrell’s recent credits include Ron Howard’s Thirteen Lives, Matt Reeves’s The Batman, Kogonada’s After Yang, and AMC+’s miniseries, The North Water. Howell-Baptiste recently guest starred in Netflix’s The Sandman, which earned her a Performer of the Week mention from TVLine. Her other credits include roles in several Emmy-nominated series, including Hacks, Killing Eve, Big Hero 6: The Series, The Good Place, and Barry.

Sugar is created by Mark Protosevich, whose recent work includes Oldboy, Thor, I Am Legend, Poseidon, and The Cell. The series is executive produced by Audrey Chon (Invasion), Scott Greenberg (The Legend), Academy Award nominee Simon Kinberg (The Martian), two-time Emmy Award winner Chip Vucelich (Feud), and Academy Award nominee Fernando Meirelles (City of God), who will also direct the series.

Apple TV+ has yet to announce a release date for Sugar.
