Actor Oscar Isaac (Ex-Machina, A Most Violent Year) is finalizing talks to become Marvel’s Moon Knight at Disney+, Deadline reports. The series is the latest Marvel Comics-based show for the streaming service. Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy’s lead writer Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four, The Exorcist) is set to develop and lead scripting for the show. A director is still being sought by Marvel and Disney.
Moon Knight follows mercenary Marc Spector as he combats the darkest crevices of crime under multiple aliases. According to Deadline, these alter personas range from a meager cabbie named Jack Lockley, to GQ billionaire Steven Grant. His latest hero iteration is being a vessel for an ancient Egyptian god named Khonshu. As Khonshu, Spector dons a hooded all-white uniform.
Isaac is the latest announcement in a rolling campaign of casting news for Marvel’s pending televised universe on Disney+. The streaming service announced the lead roles for two series featuring Marvel heroines. Tatiana Malsany (Perry Mason, Orphan Black) is set to play Bruce Banner’s lawyer cousin, Jennifer Walters, in She-Hulk. And newcomer Iman Vellani landed the role of Kamala Khan in the teen superhero series, Ms. Marvel. The barely year-old platform also has at least three other series in the works from Marvel, including Tom Hiddleston’s (The Night Manager, Thor: Ragnarok) Loki, a series on Jeremy Renner’s (Tag, Captain America: Civil War) Hawkeye, and the recently announced Nick Fury series starring Samuel L. Jackson (The Banker, Snakes on A Plane). In addition to these future series, Disney+ has the cooky WandaVision premiering by the end of this year, and buddy-action show, The Flacon and Winter Soldier coming in 2021.
The former Star Wars rebel leader can be seen in the upcoming adaptation of the sci-fi epic, Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049, Arrival.) According to Deadline, he’s also starring in The Card Counter, a thriller from Paul Schrader (First Reformed, Taxi Driver). On the TV side, he and Jessica Chastain (The 355, Miss Sloane) will reunite for the limited series Scenes From A Marriage on HBO.
