The main cast for Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, a new Disney Channel animated series based on the Marvel comic book series of the same name, has just been revealed, ScreenRant reports. The titular voice roles will be played by actress and singer Diamond White (Pinky Malinky, Transformers: Rescue Bots) and veteran voice actor Fred Tatasciore (Family Guy, Star Trek: Lower Decks), as reported by ScreenRant.
White and Tatasciore are just a couple of the major stars in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur‘s boffo voice cast. SNL alum Sasheer Zamata (Woke, Deidra & Laney Rob Train) and Jermaine Fowler (Superior Donuts, Sorry to Bother You) provide the voices of Moon Girl’s mother and father, respectively, according to ScreenRant. Her grandparents will be voiced by Tatasciore’s longtime friend and co-worker Gary Anthony Williams (The Boondocks, The Crew) and the incomparable Alfre Woodard (Cross Creek, Luke Cage), via Marvel. Williams and White actually worked together previously on another Disney Channel project, The Lion Guard, where Williams took over James Earl Jones’s role as Mustafa from the Lion King franchise.
Libe Barer (DuckTales, Disney Star Darlings), the actress behind the voice of Moon Girl’s best friend and handler Casey, referred to Moon Girl as her favorite superhero in recent Twitter post. The post also hinted at the wisecracking personality of Barer’s own character, who notably does not have a presence in the original comic book series.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is allegedly a contemporary kid-friendly superhero story anchored by a highly intelligent main character: “Thirteen-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette (White)… accidentally brings Devil Dinosaur (Tatasciore) into present-day New York City via a time vortex, [and] the duo works together to protect the city’s Lower East Side from danger,” via Marvel. The show’s executive producer is Academy Award nominee Laurence Fishburne (What’s Love Got to Do With It, The Matrix), who has additionally agreed to recurring role as the reality-manipulating trickster The Beyonder, Marvel reports.
Moon Girl’s intellect is one of her key superpowers. In the twelfth issue of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Lafayette is even declared by super-scientist Amadeus Cho A.K.A. Brawn to be the smartest living person on the planet. The most recent installments in her comic book series have been comprised of two-part crossover with the Fantastic Four wherein she matches wits with the team’s leader Reed Richards A.K.A. Mister Fantastic, who, within the Marvel canon, is referred to as the smartest man on Earth.
Disney Channel viewers can reportedly expect Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur to premiere in 2022, ScreenRant reports.
