A second WandaVision spinoff series is reportedly coming to Disney+. Deadline reports Marvel is developing a series focused on The Vision with the actor Paul Bettany (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Uncle Frank) reprising the role he’s portrayed in several Marvel films and the 2021 series.
While most details are scarce, Deadline relays the series will pick up where the WandaVision finale left off: a White Vision – created by the government entity S.W.O.R.D. – retreating from a fight with Wanda Maximoff’s imaginary Vision. The series, currently titled Vision Quest, is said to follow White Vision as he attempts to piece back together the life which seems like a dream. While both Marvel Studios and Bettany have been mute since the news surfaced, Bettany has expressed uncertainty about returning to the iconic role in the past.
“It was a beautiful culmination for all these things Lizzie and I have done together,” Bettany explained during a Deadline Contenders TV: The Nominees 2021 panel. “We really found a lane for ourselves, and this was different in tone from those movies. But you never know with Marvel, whether you’re done, or not. So I don’t want to call it the end yet. This was one of the most creative experiences of my life, joyful and free, making this show. To see it embraced by an audience the way it was, was so wonderful.”
As WandaVision viewers may recall, White Vision was created with the sole purpose to eliminate both Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen (Love and Death, Avengers: Endgame), and her Vision inside her magically-constructed suburb of Westview. As White Vision sought to destroy The Vision in the series finale, The Vision was able to disarm his evil twin with a mental conundrum. At this moment, he uploaded his memories into the clone, rendering White Vision harmless as he abandoned his mission.
While Marvel will not have a true return to Westview for a second WandaVision season, we will revisit parts of the narrative with the first spinoff series, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, starring Kathryn Hahn (This Much I Know Is True, Mrs. Fletcher) and Emma Caufield (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Darkness Falls). While Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is not expected to appear in Agatha Harkness’ series, she may appear in Vision Quest, via Deadline.
According to Deadline, WandaVision and Coven of Chaos helmer Jac Schaeffer will lead the charge for this new series. Until then one can rewatch WandaVision and other Marvel Studios titles on Disney+.
