Marlee Matlin Joins ‘Quantico’ for Season 3

Fans of ABC’s thriller Quantico know that Season 3 will be anything but expected. With a new showrunner and multiple cast members not returning, there are many questions about the upcoming rebooted season. The Hollywood Reported confirmed on Monday that a new face played by Marlee Matlin will be introduced in the upcoming season.

Matlin will appear as a series regular. She will play Jocelyn Tuner,  who is described as “a former FBI agent who was known at one time to be the best undercover agent in the field until a bomb blew up near her and rendered her deaf.” While the character has not worked with the FBI for a significant amount of time, she will return to join a special unit with other characters on the show.

The casting of Matlin is one of the more minor shake-ups regarding Quantico‘s upcoming season. Series creator and showrunner Josh Safran left the series following the Season 2 finale. Code Black creator Michael Seitzman took over Safran’s job while he continues to work on the CBS drama. Another change is that the series that once consisted of 22 episode seasons has been downsized to a 13 episode third season.

Many series regulars from the past two seasons have been confirmed to not return. Yasmine Al Massri, who played twins Nimah and Raina Amin, and Pearl Thusi, who played Dayana Mampasi, have both made their permanent exits from the series. Aunjanue Ellis, who played Miranda Shaw in both seasons, and Russell Tovey, who was introduced in Season 2 as Harry Doyle, will not return as series regulars, though it’s possible that they will return as guest stars. Priyanka Chopra, Johanna Braddy, Jake McLaughlin and Blair Underwood will all return as main characters. The returning actors play Alex Parrish, Shelby Wyatt, Ryan Booth and Owen Hall.

Matlin is known for her work on stage, in film and on television. Her film credits include Hear No Evil, It’s My Party, In Her Defense, Excision, and The One I Love. She won the 1986 Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role as Sarah Norman in Children of a Lesser God. She is the only deaf performer to have won the particular award. Matlin’s television credits include Reasonable Doubt, Picket Fences, The West Wing, The L Word, Switched at Birth, Family Guy and Glee.

ABC has not yet set an official premiere date for Season 3 of Quantico, though it is expected to begin airing midseason.
