Netflix’s original programming has continued to innovate and provide its audiences with fresh and exciting content to consume an which is just the case for Kevin Smith’s new anime-style show. Smith, known for his View Askew Production company and his love for comics, is partnering with Mattel and Netflix to create an expanded universe from the original characters of the popular 1980s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series. While much has yet to be announced concerning the plot, Mattel and Netflix announced Mark Hamill, Lena Headey, Chris Wood, and Sarah Michelle Gellar will join the main cast for this 80s revival television show.
The announcement of these actors and actresses in voice roles was met with elation from science fiction and comic book fans alike. Hamill, known for playing Luke Skywalker in Star Wars franchise and as the voice of the Joker in the Arkham video games, was announced to voice He-Man’s nemesis, Skeletor. Headey, from Game of Thrones fame, was announced to star as Skeletor’s partner-in-crime, Evil-Lyn. In addition to these two actors, the show also revealed the casting of Chris Wood, from Supergirl, as the voice of Prince Adam/He-Man and Sarah Michelle Gellar, Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as one of He-Man’s allies in Teela. Furthermore, the anime-style series will also include Stephen Root, from Office Space and Barry, as Cringer/Battle Cat, Henry Rollins, singer of Black Flag, as Tri-Klops, and even Alan Oppenheimer, who was the voice of Skeletor in the original series, will return as the voice of Moss Man in Smith’s new universe.
There is no set release date for Masters of the Universe: Revelation as of yet, although fan speculation suggests the show will hit Netflix’s catalog as early as 2020 or the beginning of 2021. In the meantime, fans and newcomers can witness the “Power of Grayskull” and chronicles of He-Man in the original Masters of the Universe through Hulu with a Starz subscription.
