Lucy Halliday Cast as Co-Lead Daisy in ‘The Testaments,’ Sequel to ‘The Handmaid’s Tale

According an article via Deadline Lucy Halliday (Blue Jean) has been cast as a lead in The Testaments, the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, joining Chase Infiniti (Shantaram, The Good Doctor) and Ann Dowd (The Leftovers, Hereditary) in the Hulu series. Set more than 15 years after The Handmaid’s Tale, the dystopian drama continues to explore the oppressive theocracy of Gilead, with Halliday playing Daisy, a Canadian teen whose life changes when she discovers her connection to the regime.

The sequel, much like its predecessor, is based on Margaret Atwood’s novel and is created by Bruce Miller, who returns as showrunner. Deadline reports that The Testaments will dive into the lives of Agnes (Infiniti), Daisy (Halliday), and Aunt Lydia (Dowd), whose fates become intertwined as they uncover Gilead’s secrets and join the fight against its oppressive rule. The series is expected to carry over the same tone and intensity as The Handmaid’s Tale, with an added layer of resistance against the regime.

“Daisy is a young woman on a journey to find out who she really is,” Halliday said in a statement about her role. The young actress, known for her standout role in Blue Jean, is now stepping into the world of Gilead, where the stakes are even higher. Deadline also mentions that Elisabeth Moss, the star of The Handmaid’s Tale, is expected to reprise her iconic role as June in a guest-starring capacity, connecting her character’s journey to both Agnes and Daisy.

The Testaments will continue to examine the harsh world of Gilead and the lives of those resisting its tyrannical control. Deadline highlighted that Bruce Miller will executive produce alongside Warren Littlefield and Steve Stark, with MGM Television producing the series.

In addition to her role in The Testaments, Halliday recently wrapped filming on California Schemin’, directed by James McAvoy. The young Scottish actress is represented by Curtis Brown Group and Myman Greenspan Fox.

With The Testaments continuing the story of Gilead’s resistance, Deadline reports that the series is poised to captivate audiences once again. As the saga of survival and defiance unfolds, Halliday’s addition to the cast promises to bring a fresh and compelling perspective to the Handmaid’s Tale universe.
