‘Loki’ Season Two To Begin Filming In Next Few Weeks With Main Cast Returning

At the 2022 Disney Upfronts on Monday, Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, confirmed that season two of Marvel’s Disney+ series, Loki, will begin filming in the next few weeks, according to ComicBook.com. Feige also confirmed that the main cast of the show would be returning for the second season.

The show will be the first of Disney+’s Marvel TV series that will be getting a second season. The streaming service’s other Marvel shows include WandaVision, The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, and most recently, Moon Knight. Hawkeye has yet to receive a renewal for a second season, while WandaVision, The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, and Moon Knight are all limited series.

This news comes as no surprise as Feige also noted during the 2022 Disney Upfronts that Loki was the most watched Marvel TV series out of all the shows Marvel Studios has produced for Disney+ thus far, according to Collider.

Feige did not name specific names during his presentation as to who of the main cast would be returning, but the main cast of the show includes Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers), Owen Wilson (Wedding Crashers), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle), Sophia Di Martino (Flowers), and Wunmi Mosako (His House). Each of them appeared in at least five of the first season’s six episodes.

Although the main cast of Loki will likely be the same, Michael Waldron (Heels), the head writer for the show during season one, will not be returning for the upcoming second season. Eric Martin (Rick And Morty) will be the head writer for season two.

Waldron commented on his exit from the show to Digital Spy earlier this month.

“Well, I mean, look, everything leads into everything,” Waldron said. “We’ve hired a couple of great directors. [Justin] Benson and [Aaron] Moorhead [Loki season 2 directors] are brilliant. And Eric Martin has taken over as head writer for season 2. So the creative team is fantastic. As Tom [Hiddleston] once said, there’s plenty more mischief to come.”

Neither a premiere date or production-start date for season two of Loki have been announced as of now.
