According to Comicbook, Twilight Saga revival as a television series, is in the works by Lionsgate Television. This marks the second time the film drama involving vampires and werewolves has been created for television since its conclusion in 2012. New reports suggest that Lionsgate is more serious about creating the series based on Stephenie Meyer’s (Beautiful Monster) best-selling novel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sinead Daly (The Get Down) is set to write the script for the upcoming series adaptation of Twilight. Daly will be working with Lionsgate Television to determine if the series will be an adaptation of Meyer’s novels or its own different take. Meyer is also expected to be involved in the making of the series. Wyck Godfrey (The Maze Runner) and Erik Feig (Chaos Walking) will also be joining as executive producers. Both are known for taking the rights to Twilight and turning it into a 3 billion dollar franchise.
According to Comicbook, in 2013 after the Twilight franchise had finished, RiffTrax attempted to license the first film to create a live riff version in theaters but was sadly turned down.
RiffTrax had said, “They understood what we wanted to do and didn’t object to the idea. They just felt that the Twilight series is still very much a going concern for them, i.e. something that’s still going to earn them millions and millions more dollars, and it didn’t make sense to let a few guys crack jokes on top of it – at least not this summer.”
The Twilight film series originally aired in 2008 and spanned five different movies based on the hit-selling novels. The films as well as the novels followed the story of high school student Bella Swan who moved from Arizona to Washington where she met Edward Cullen, a mysterious teen whose eyes pierced directly into her soul. The dramatic films include creatures from vampires to werewolves.
The Twilight series is yet to announce which network or platform it will air on.
