Lionsgate Television & 3 Arts Acquire Upcoming Kimberly McCreight Novel For Series Development

Deadline announced in an exclusive that Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts have preemptively acquired New York Times Bestselling author Kimberly McCreight’s (Reconstructing Amelia, Friends Like These) upcoming novel Someone Else’s Husband ahead of its June 16 print release date. The novel is one of several that she has in progress for adaptation to the screen, and is a highly anticipated summer 2026 title.

From Deadline, a brief summary for the novel:

Someone Else’s Husband is a psychological thriller that follows Gretchen Falk, a wealthy Park Avenue wife whose life begins to unravel after her husband Richard embarks on a climbing expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro, where he meets and has an affair with an artist, Frankie. Weeks later, Frankie is murdered, and Richard is the prime suspect, forcing Gretchen to confront the reality of her husband’s life and her own.”

The adaptation is set to be co-written by author McCreight, with her serving as an executive producer alongside 3 Arts partner Erwin Stoff (Doc, The Matrix). Per Deadline, the project is anticipated to be taken to market soon, with plans to attach a showrunner in the meantime. It is also the most recent collaboration between 3 Arts and its majority owner Lionsgate, who are the duo behind Netflix’s hit breakout book-inspired series The Hunting Wives – of which Stoff is also executive producer. SVP of Scripted Development at Lionsgate Television Courtney Mock (The Yoke, The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky) is overseeing the project.

McCreight, via Deadline, was inspired by a climbing trip she had taken to Kilimanjaro in creating Someone Else’s Husband. On the subject of the adaptation, she said:

Someone Else’s Husband explores the complexities of love, loss, betrayal, and the consequences of the secrets we keep. […] I’m thrilled to partner with Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts, whose track record of adapting bold, character-driven stories into propulsive series makes them the ideal team to bring this novel to the screen.”

As listed by Deadline, McCreight’s literary works include titles such as A Good Marriage, Friends Like These, and The Outliers trilogy – a trio of which are works with anticipated or potential adaptations. Friends Like These is currently in development with Amblin at Amazon, while A Good Marriage is under Nicole Kidman’s (Practical Magic, Moulin Rouge!) Blossom Films and set up at Amazon. Lionsgate also acquired the feature film rights to the sci-fi YA The Outliers trilogy more than a decade ago. She is represented by Bob Bookman, WME, and Victoria Cook of Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
