Lily Collins Lives Glamorously in Netflix’s ‘Emily in Paris’ Trailer

Sex and the City is getting an upgrade. Say bonjour to Paris as creator Darren Star (Sex and the City, Younger) has brought a stylish new heroine to root for in the upcoming Netflix series, Emily in Paris. Releasing its first trailer Tuesday, Lily Collins (Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile) stars as the titular character Emily beginning a new life in France’s epicenter. The first season will be available to stream October 2 and will consist of 10 episodes via Entertainment Weekly.

In the trailer for Emily in Paris, Emily says, “This city is filled with love, beauty, and passion.” This sums up what the show will be about as it follows Emily falling in and out of love with French men, French fashion, and Paris itself. Working as a marketing executive in Chicago, Emily’s world is turned upside when her company transfers her to Paris. She must adjust to the move in a place where she doesn’t speak the language, nor necessarily fit in. Never taking itself too seriously, there are plenty of pop culture references and awkward moments in Emily’s quest for love and happiness.

A sight for sore eyes with ambitious women, female friendship, and sexual liberation at the center of its story, Emily in Paris echoes many themes and looks from a certain monumental TV series. The creator of the show, Star, first came onto the scene when he created the smash hit Sex and the City in the late nineties. Portraying four women who work hard, struggle with love, and support one another in all walks of life was groundbreaking. Now, Star has found a new muse in the city of Paris. One deja vu moment occurs in the trailer with Emily strutting down Paris in high heels and sleek clothing whilst having a love-hate relationship with the city she lives in. This look is reminiscent of the now iconic performance of Carrie Bradshaw, who was portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker (Divorce). Ruminating on what it meant to be single in New York City, Sex and the City walked so other shows about eccentric, independent women could run.

This upcoming series is sure to fit into the fabric of what it means to be a modern day woman (with a never ending supply of hats). Watch the trailer for Emily in Paris below:
