Lauren Cohan And Jeffrey Dean Morgan Join ‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Series ‘Isle Of The Dead’

AMC’s upcoming spinoff series of The Walking Dead, Isle of The Dead, welcomes two actors from the original series, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, via Deadline. The two will continue playing their characters Maggie and Negan respectively.

British-American actor Cohan is also known for her other TV roles such as Bela Talbot in Supernatural, Rose in Vampire Diaries, and Vivian McArthur Volkoff in Chuck. She also appeared in movies such as The Boy, All Eyez On Me, and Mile 22

Morgan starred in many popular TV series such as Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Wife, and Supernatural. His most notable movie roles come from the 2018 film Rampage and the 2009 superhero film Watchmen. Morgan and Cohan previously collaborated in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where they played Batman’s parents.

Isle of the Dead centers on Maggie and Negan traveling into a post-apocalyptic New York City long ago cut off from the mainland. The once glorious Big Apple is now filled with the dead. Maggie first appeared in season two and had become a recurring character since. But her appearance became less frequent after season eight. As for season 11, Maggie and Negan team up and head for Meridian.

The Walking Dead is heading toward its finale. But its universe is far from the ending. “It not only adds another compelling series to this collection, but it also extends our storytelling around two unforgettable characters fans have grown to love, hate or hate and then love in Maggie and Negan, brilliantly inhabited by Lauren and Jeffrey.” Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, expressed according to Deadline.

“It also lets us explore a corner of this universe located on the island of Manhattan, with an iconic skyline that takes on a very different meaning when viewed through the lens of a zombie apocalypse.”

Eli Jorné (Heels), who has been a writer and co-executive producer on The Walking Dead for multiple seasons, serves as the showrunner and executive producer of Isle of The Dead. Both Cohan and Morgan will also participate in the production process.

The series is set to launch on AMC and AMC+ in 2023. There will be six episodes in total.
