Latinx Talent Lab Created By Tanya Saracho After Development Deal with UCP

Vida producer Tanya Saracho (Generic Latina) signs a development deal with UCP’s studio division, Universal Studio Group according to Deadline. Saracho will contribute to the brainstorming and creation of the television branch and podcasts through the studio’s UCP Audio extension.

“To say that I’m immensely enthusiastic about this union is not enough. This partnership with UCP is a vital opportunity to keep amplifying the voices and stories that matter to me – those brown, queer narratives which have been missing from the landscape, and which are so important to tell,” says Saracho via Deadline.

Saracho is creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the American drama television Vida which has been aired on Starz network. Vida follows two Mexican-American sisters that live in their childhood home in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. The two sisters had made the recent decision to move back into their childhood home after the death of their mother.

The series embodied Latinx appreciation with chosen Latinx directors in season one and Latina directors in seasons two and three. The series also had all-Latinx writers room for seasons one and two, and in season three, Latina writers were present.

“I’m also elated and looking forward to establishing a lab and incubator program aimed to nurture, amplify and empower intersectional Latinx voices,” says Saracho, according to Deadline.

Saracho will create a lab and incubator program for Latinx voices with support from the Universal Studio Group.

“Tanya’s program fully embodies that intention and we look forward to supporting her as she mentors aspiring Latinx writers,” said Universal Studio Group chairman, Bonnie Hammer (This Old House) via Deadline. “This is the first of many programs we will be backing across our three studios.”
