HBO is ordering a new comedy series to be co-written by Larry Wilmore and Issa Rae. Both Wilmore and Rae will also act as executive producers under 3 Arts, under which they are both managed.
The focal point of the project starring Rae highlights “the awkward experiences and racy tribulations of a modern day African-American woman,” according to Deadline. Rae’s YouTube webseries The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl engaged those very themes.
HarperCollins will be publishing a memoir/collection of personal essays by Rae. She was also recently listed in Forbes’ “30 under 30”. Rae also scripted for ABC and Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland.
The Bernie Mac Show was created by Wilmore, who is also a correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. Wilmore recently did two interview specials for Showtime titled Larry Wilmore’s Race, Religion And Sex, according to Deadline.
