Kristen Johnston Cast in ‘Real Life’ Pilot from ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Creators

Variety reports that Kristen Johnston has been cast in a new CBS comedy pilot called Real Life.

Real Life was written by Hilary Winston, who also created Bad Teacher. How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will join her as executive producers, and Pamela Fryman is the director. Real Life was actually redeveloped from last year, when the original web series “7P/10E” from Avital Ash inspired the pilot which was then called My Time/Your Time.

Real Life was developed by the creators of How I Met Your Mother which concluded in 2014 after nine seasons. The new comedy follows Nora and Drew: two coworkers in their twenties who are thrown together after suddenly after working together and beginning a long distance relationship from opposite ends of the country.

Kristen Johnston will play Beverly, Nora’s loud, self-assured, and fabulous boss. Recently Johnston has starred on The Exes on TV Land and made guest appearances on Modern Family, ER, and Sex and the City. She has also been awarded two Emmy awards for her performance on 3rd Rock From the Sun.

Nora will be played by Rebecca Rittenhouse who plays Cody LeFever on ABC’s Blood & Oil and Anna on Hulu original The Mindy Project. The male lead Drew has yet to be cast.

Other cast members already announced for the Real Life pilot include Brenda Song and Lucas Hazlett. Song, who has played roles such as Angie Cheng on Pure Genius, and famously London Tipton on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, will be Nora’s best friend and roommate. Hazlett, who previously worked as James on CBS comedy 2 Broke Girls, will be a key human resources co-worker in Nora’s office.
