Kristen Johnston (The Flintstones in Viva Las Vegas, Bride wars), a two-time Emmy winner has been cast in a major recurring role alongside Denis Leary (The Sandlot, Ice Age) in the upcoming second season of the Fox Comedy Going Dutch Deadline says.
According to Deadline , Johnston will be acting as General Martin, who is a high–ranking NATO general. Martin is authoritative, self-assured and–much to Colonel (Leary’s) surprise–gorgeous. Taylor Misiak (Dave, Perfect Ten) known as Maggie is an admirer of General Martin and sees her as her Canadian idol. Martin invites Maggie to Stroopsdorf with the intention of becoming her mentor–however, things don’t quite go to plan when there is an immediate spark of chemistry between General Martin and none other than the Colonel.
Deadline tells us that Going Dutch revolves around the bold and outspoken U.S. Army Colonel Patrick Quinn (Leary), who– after delivering a brutally unfiltered rant– is banished to the Netherlands and set to be in charge of what may be the least strategic military base on the planet. The post is more known for its Michelin-starred commissary, elite bowling alley, lavender- scented laundry, and the Armed Forces’ only fromagerie than for any actual military relevance. There, surrounded by an extensive crew of misfit soldiers, the colonel sets out to restore order and discipline– with some reluctant help from the base’s former interim commander: his estranged daughter, Captain Maggie Quinn. We’ve learned from Deadline that alongside Leary and Misiak, the series also features Danny Pudi (Mythic Quest, Somebody I Used to Know) Laci Mosley, (iCarly, Florida Girls) Hal Cumpston (The Walking Dead: World Beyond, The Deb), Joe Morton (The Brother From Another Planet, Scandal) and Catherine Tate (Wild Blue Yonder, The Nan Movie) appear in recurring guest roles.
According to Deadline, Going Dutch was created by executive producer Joel Church- Cooper (Brockmire, Future Man) and is produced entirely by Fox Entertainment Studios, stemming from Leary’s broadcast deal with the company. Church-Cooper also serves as co-showrunner alongside fellow executive producer Hilary Winston (Bad Teacher, The Lego Ninjago Movie). Denis Leary and Jack Leary (The Amazing Spiderman 2, Sex & Drugs) also executive produce via their production company, Amoeba.
As per Deadline, the two-time Emmy Award winner—Kristen Johnston, is best known for her role as Sally Solomon on NBC’s 3rd Rock from the Sun. Since then, she’s built a diverse career across both television and film. Johnston spent four seasons starring in TV Land’s The Exes and more recently returned to the spotlight in Season 3 of HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones, as well as a guest appearance on Our Flag Means Death. She reunited with Chuck Lorre—after co-starring in his CBS hit Mom—for his latest Netflix project Leanne, sharing the screen with comedian Leanne Morgan.
