Kimmy Schmidt’s Spirit is ‘Unbreakable’ in New Netflix Interactive Special

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy Schmidt v The Reverend will air an interactive special to the series on Netflix today, according to Hollywood Reporter. The show will run about 60 to 80 minutes.

The special episode, created in 2015 by Tiny Fey (Mean Girls) and Robert Carlock (Friends), stars Ellie Kemper (The Office) as Kimmy Schmidt, the lead character. The show initially takes place in the fictionalized town of Durnsville, Indiana. At 14, Kimmy was kidnapped by Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne, played by John Hamm (Mad Men), and put into a bunker for the next 15 years with three other kidnapped women. When Kimmy escapes the bunker, she moves to New York City to start a new life.

Through the next 52 episodes, Kimmy encounters hilarity trying to readjust to life outside the bunker in NYC. She has to learn how to handle jobs and relationships while trying to manage the fear of the Reverend she can’t shake as a fourteen-year-old whose life was fast-forwarded to adulthood.

Notable cast members for the show include Kimmy’s roommate Titus Andromedon, played by Tituss Burgess (30 Rock), Lillian Kaushtupper, played by Carol Kane (The Princess Bride) and Jacqueline White-Vorhees, played by Jane Krakowski (30 Rock).

The special will aim to show Kimmy’s interactive quest to save the bunker girls Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne alluded to during a prison visitation with Kimmy. Titus, Lillian and Jacqueline return from the series and guest appearances by Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live), and Chris Parnell (Rick and Morty) will also be made.

Although this isn’t the first time Netflix has made an interactive show, namely Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, this special is much more substantial and satisfying than other post-series projects delivered to fans, Hollywood Reporter said.
