Kari Skogland to Direct Disney+ Miniseries ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’

Kari Skogland is set to direct the Disney+ miniseries The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Deadline reports. Skogland is the BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated director, showrunner, and CEO of  Red Arrow Studios’ Mad Rabbit, a company launched in 2016.

She is the pilot block director and executive producer of Showtime’s series The Loudest Voice with Russell Crowe who will play Roger Ailes, and Naomi Watts who will play Gretchen Carlson. The show will air in June. She has directed some episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale, the pilot block of Starz’s The Rook and the pilot block of AMC’s NOS4A2 with Zachary Quinto.

Skogland wrote, directed and produced The Stone Angel with actors Ellen Burstyn and Ellen Page. She also served as the executive producer and director of History’s Sons of Liberty, a miniseries for which she won the Directors Guild of Canada award (best director of a miniseries). She also directed House of Cards and The Punisher (Netflix), the premiere season of Condor (Audience), The Borgias and Penny Dreadful (Showtime), Boardwalk Empire (HBO), The Killing, The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead(AMC), Under the Dome (CBS), Vikings (History), Power (Starz), and The Americans (FX). She also directed and produced the indie film Fifty Dead Men Walking.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier‘s cast includes Anthony Mackie (Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier). They played in the movie Avengers: Endgame, in which Captain America passed the title on to Falcon. “They have great chemistry,” Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios told THR about the show’s main characters. “You will see much more of that chemistry and learn much more about both of them,” Feige added.

Daniel Bruhl (baddie Helmut Zemo in Captain America: Civil War), whose plot tore the Avengers apart, and Emily Van Camp (Captain America) should also join the cast.

Malcolm Spellman (Empire) is writing the series.

The six-part miniseries will air in August 2020.
