Kaley Cuoco Will Star as Hollywood Legend Doris Day in Upcoming Limited Series

Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant) will star as Hollywood legend Doris Day (Pillow Talk) in an upcoming limited series detailing the singer and actress’s life, as reported by Deadline. Cuoco’s Yes, Norman Productions will team up alongside Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions with no network attached as of yet.

Currently in the development stage, the limited series will be based upon the 1976 biography Doris Day: Her Own Story, written by well known biographer A.E Hotchner (Papa Hemingway). The novel consists of various interviews with Day as she chronicles her life as a singer and actress during Hollywood’s Golden Age and beyond. Day became one of the biggest movie stars in the 50s and 60s, starring in several musicals and romantic comedy films with frequent co-star Rock Hudson (Giant). Known for her work in Calamity Jane, The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Pajama Game, and Pillow Talk, the latter earned her an Oscar nomination.

After Day’s fourth husband died in 1968, her career simultaneously took a downward spiral which left her in financial jeopardy. She begrudgingly entered into a television career in the 1970s while also becoming an advocate for animal rights, something she continued for the rest of her life. Born in 1922, Day passed away at the age of 97 in 2019.

Cuoco posted to Instagram on Friday announcing the upcoming project. See her post below:

Cuoco is coming off a successful year in television, having just starred in the first season of the HBO Max comedy thriller The Flight Attendant which is also a Warner Brothers production. She was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy series, along with being nominated for a Critics Choice Award. The streamer’s most watched original series, HBO Max announced today that The Flight Attendant season two will debut sometime in the spring of 2022.
