Justin Bartha Returns to ‘National Treasure’ Original Role in Upcoming Series

Millennial moviegoers will recall the eclectic series National Treasure, as well as its last movie National Treasure: Book of Secrets. The latter, premiering last in 2007, was always thought to be followed up by a third, which is finally happening with the Disney Plus series just entering production. Now joining the cast is Justin Bartha (The Hangover), who previously played Riley, according to Hollywood Reporter.

The new show, announced almost two years ago now, has chosen to shift their perspective focus away from that of the films and choose to create its own narrative: as spinoff. As head producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean) told Collider: “Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept [as the film] but a young cast.” This marks the first in several significant changes that the show aims to set, with others including the incorporation of serious themes such as identity and Patriotism.

Bartha’s role in the Nicholas Cage (Ghost Rider) -led movies was that of Riley Poole, historian Benjamin Franklin Gate’s best friend and colleague, often called upon for his help tracking and hacking.

Hopefully, the series shines a nostalgic light on the enjoyment to be found in the action-adventure television genre!

The upcoming series has just begun production.
